Epilepsy South Australia Centre

Why we did this project

The Epilepsy Centre of SA Project funding several purpose-made under-mattress “sensor mats” used for early detection of a seizure during sleep. The mats cost around $980 each and Epilepsy patients receive no funding from Government. Epilepsy sufferers are not eligible for the NDIS. The Epilepsy Centre itself receives no Government funding.

What we did

In addition to providing funding for the sensor mats, members of Kidman Park Rotary installed new fencing and built a deck. Clients and carers of The Epilepsy Centre SA who experience epileptic seizure events face severe impact on their life-style and general health.

Medical research over many years clearly identifies the benefit that carers gain through better sleep and less worry, while the clients themselves will have a better outcome through early warning and intervention.

Target clients are those who are unable to purchase the mats at $980. These mats require no ongoing support once they have been purchased.

Happy outcomes

The greatest outcome for clients and carers is better monitoring of seizures and prevention of death.  Every “Sensor Mat” donated will have a plaque to recognise The Rotary Club of Kidman Park and The Rotary Foundation.
